Hi guys, Recently bought this coin for what I think was a reasonable price. Has a nice luster and sharp details IMHO. I know the hairline is not very pronounced in this - I can't tell if that is a wear issue or if it was a weak imprint (some of these were not struck well in that area, right?) I haven't had a conclusion I trust on the grade on this and have had a hard time distinguishing between accurate grades online for this series. Does anyone have any thoughts on a potential grade and/or value? Any help is much appreciated!
Nice 18S SLQ! I've been playing with PCGS Photograde and I'm thinking AU58 at least. But, I'm sure no expert. http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/#/SLQe/Grades
This is where I get confused. Looking at the PCGS photograde, the MS62 has a well defined hairline and eyebrow. If you go up to MS63, 64, the hairline is weak and interrupted. I know SLQ is a very busy coin, but how can higher grades have less detail? Maybe I am blind or its a bad picture. http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/#/SLQ/Grades
Strike is only one aspect of grading a coin. Luster and surfaces tend to be a tad more important than strike.
