I have two 1878 CC Morgans in awesome condition, edited

Coins have been graded by a third party as MS65, though I've now been told by two numismatic 'experts' they could have been graded higher.

    Thoughts?

What is the name of the TPG?

I believe it's called Independant Coin Grading (IGC).

I've also now taken them to two companies who have offered roughly the same; $1,000 -$1,250 each. Good deal?

Any chance of better pics??? Including the slab certs? That picture doesn't tell me much.

The coins are now in a vault at the coin company I visited today.

Tomorrow he'll either offer a trade or buy them from me or try to sell them to one of his clients. I'm just hoping to not get rooked too bad.

What else, might I ask, would you like to see?

I'm new to this but not so new I can't see through the dealers offering me $50 bucks for them. Really just want this over with right now.

Reason I asked is because the coin pictured appeared to be slightly worn... I don't doubt what you are saying... But I just wanted to see better pictures as what I am seeing can be a product of bad pictures.

Wholesale on a MS65 in a top tier TPG is around $1,500. I would say 1250 is fair for an ICG coin.

that's what i thought but i figured it was the picture because i couldn't figure a grade being that far off. this is starting to not pass the smell test

Gotcha. Well, let's assume it is worn (even though to my totally untrained eye the coins look sharp and practically new).

Does that appear to be a MS65 to you? How would you value it? Or is it closer to a 66? Because when I looked up the differences it was like $5k! Because that's the mistake I don't want to make. And from how the gradings are done, I don't think I trust anybody. All seems very subjective to me.

If the coin is worn it is no better then an AU58.

Thanks a lot LostDutchman. I didn't see where you'd earlier ('Wholesale on a MS65 in a top tier TPG is around $1,500. I would say 1250 is fair for an ICG coin') given me your take.

Much appreciated. Just a bit of piece of mind, as that's basically what both brokers said, though they did still try to chisel me, one in particular.

Definitely not a mint-state example. Looks like an over-dipped AU55, IMO.

Like Matt mentioned, if it were in a 65 holder by a reputable TPG like PCGS or NGC, you'd be looking at big $$$!

Guys, this is getting very close to forum rules. All buying/selling/trades must be done in the appropriate subforums. So if you want to use PM ( when the OP becomes able) thats fine, but lets stop the pricing and quasi-negotiating.

Welcome to the forum, be sure to read the rules.

That was the impression that that picture gave me.

A key wear point on these is the hair above the ear. I see too much of it to the point it's flat and not enough individual hair strand details to warrant a MS grade.
