I apologize for those of you who have already ordered the gold SSB coins - but in my opinion, I think the price will be reduced tomorrow (Wed March 7) since the price of gold has been falling in the last couple of days. Maybe a good time for anyone who hasn't ordered one yet?

    - Just my nickel ;-)
    ps: I don't like 2 cents

I ordered my silver proof yesterday morning. Later that morning I thought I'd get a second as a gift for someone. I called Mint Customer Service to adjust my order for a 2nd but they couldn't accommodate because the shipping was already in progress. The customer service reprepresentative was amazingly nice and helpful but wow, that went quick! Anyway, these things are shipping in a hurry :) I really like this design and look forward to having it in hand.

Little odd, ordered the coins on Monday and so far it has not been shipped yet according to US Mint's website. I wonder whats the hold up.

Just curious Wmercer, were the boxes blue or black? From the pics they seem to be blue. My uncirculated came in a blue box and the proof arrived in a black box.

Heres this from the mint website.

"The 2012 Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coins are packaged in two different colors – blue or black. The blue packaging was the United States Mint’s standard packaging prior to a branding effort in 2010. In order to reduce waste, we made a determination to consume all remaining blue packaging before ordering the balance of the packaging in black. We are not able to honor requests for a particular color, as fulfillment will be random. For this same reason, returns for packaging color will not be accepted. "

Yeah, I know. I saw that a few days ago and it really didn't register until I opened up today's shipment. Thanks......:)

My velvet box is different than that one for some reason and different than my Infantry dollar.

That's really pretty. I may order another or two.

I got my in the mail today too and was totally bummered by them, not at all what I was expecting (this is my devious[sp?] plan to stop people from buying them keeping the mintage low and the value of them high) :)

Got mine today. I have to say the mint is getting quick with the shipping. I ordered late on Tuesday, shipped Thursday and arrived today. Coin looks very good in hand, can't say the same with the infantry but to stay current on my commemoratives I had to get it.

Hmm, I ordered a 2011 silver proof set along with the silver proof star on 3/5, and 6 days later, the mint says "in stock, reserved and in process." Argh. Hope they don't change my 2011 set to .999 while I wait

That could mean that sales are slow so they have plenty of stock on hand for immediate shipping.

I got some of mine today. Out of 8 coins, 5 went back. Gouged scraped and rubbed.
What's wrong with their quality control?
The golds are coming tomorrow. How many of those will have to go back?

I ordered a silver uncirculated and a gold uncirculated. I hope they are in good shape.

Based on my experience, you have less than a 50% shot at getting acceptable coins.
I had almost the same results with the IS coins.

They had some nice large pictures on another forum. I took a good look and I have a question. Why does the flag on the back of the dollar have 20 stars? The official flag at that time (and the Star Spangled Banner) only has 15 stars. They have the wrong flag on the coin. The 20 star flag was not adopted until 1818.

I've been ordering from the mint for years, never had to return a coin as of yet.
