About 50 years ago Hans Zoell published some pamphlets about Canadian errors and varieties.
The 1947 Maple Leaf coins were actually struck in 1948. The Canadian Mint did not receive the revised obverse dies (minus "Et Ind Imp", due to India's independence) in time to strike needed coinage and added the maple leaf to signify the coin was actually struck in 1948.
The dollar with the ML has the 2nd lowest mintage of the classic dollar series (1935-1967) and is more valuable than the plain 47. 50¢ ML also scarcer than the plain variety.
The 25¢ ML is more common than the non ML one, likewise for the 10¢, the 5¢ and the cent.
Canadian Coin News (published bi-weekly) runs an error column by John Regitko and lists new errors every issue.
