Took a look at the US Mint.

Just a bit of advice for you, Detecto: You are going to see a lot of bad mouthing and negative comments about the mint if you do some digging on Cointalk. Other than the rather unappealing designs of many of their coins, I have had absolutely no problems with mint orders since I've been doing it from their website about six years ago. So, if you are thinking about making a purchase, it's pretty painless, and their service has never let me down.

Well I'm pretty sure a lot of people order from the mint, otherwise they wouldn't have sold too many things. My last order from the Mint arrived in 4 days, I just placed another order on Monday so I will see when I get this order, probably sometimes next week.

 

Yeah, those of us who got ASE Anniversary sets from the mint got an excellent price too. That doesn't happen that often, but sometimes it does.

Case in point with those 25th set, anything you can buy at the mint and flip for double, sometimes triple the original purchase price, is a steal of a deal. And another point, remember when the mint had those $1000 bags of gold dollars you can buy at face and not pay a dime for shipping? Yup, the frequent flier miler and program credit cards got lots of use during that stint, and everybody and their sister was doing it. All that for some bonus points

 

No. It is not true.

In the past, the US Mint would offer an introductory price which then went up to regular price after a couple of weeks.
I have not seen this for quite some time though and the price offered on the "flyers" was the exact same price as the web.

 

There's the winning comment. If you're not really into collecting modern coins, then why bother with worrying about what the Mint has to offer with so many questions? They sell new coins, they're not your typical dealer who's out to wheel and deal in all coins, past and present.

 

I don't know where you're looking but the Mint's web site offers First Spouse gold and medals, ATB sets and pucks, medals, proof sets, BU sets etc and so forth.
I still buy a clad proof set and an Uncirculated set from the Mint, mostly out of force of habit.
I also buy BU versions of the silver dollars and the ATB pucks.
I don't know what you expect the Mint to sell but they do have a wide variety of items.

 

The problem here I think rodeoclown, is this person is young and is looking for a way to post on the board, but still isn't at the level of maturity to develop original and noteworthy questions. He probably doesn't even need to know all the answers to his questions, but he feels important seeing his name up on the website. Hence, he continues to post without any thought to the value of the question or his response. As he matures, his questions will become fewer and more meaningful. He may even leave the site once the novelty of posting wears off, or; he looses interest. Until then, think about our own participation in these posts. Are we helping him or are we feeding the problem? I think we all tried to help at the start, it just doesn't seem to have made a difference.

I don't collect moderns either, but every now and then I do see something interesting, and I also like to stay on top of what is going on. So sometimes I ask questions about or check on mint operations.

Not true. Every once in a while someone will ask one. It's human nature.
Detecto has now used up his lifetime quota.

FYI, DCAM and UCAM, are the same thing.

Just two different TPGs is all.

 

Well, I never said the questions were dumb, I asked why worry and bother asking such questions when the OP actually stated they don't bother with modern coins to begin with. :thumb:

 

I buy direct from them on occasion, when it something I think will either be more on 2nd market, or limited supply.

 

Oh and I buy from the Mint, never had any issues either, been buying from them for years. I usually get these each year:

1 x ASE Proof
2 x Uncirculated Mint Sets (one of them I break up to put each denominations into their Dansco or Whitman albums for my individual uncirculated sets)
1 x Silver Proof Set

And if the commemorative's are good, I'll pick up a proof of the ones I like best.
