Hi, My friend managed to get hold on to some old coins. Some seem to be common sort, some seems special. We have no idea if they have any decent value. Thats where we decided to ask you, the experts. Here are them scanned. Got about 40 of these. Age ranging from 1950- to 1996 3 of these from 1984, 93, 96 2 of these. 1980, 82 About 20 of these. 1961-96 About 20 of these too. 1972-96 I'll add more to next post..
5 of these. 1950-89. 1 of these. 1997. Bad scan but texts are: "100 Teatro real ptas Juan Carlos I ret de Espana" 1 of these. 1985. Weird latin text on the side: "pleidiol wyf i’m gwlad". 1 of these. 1983.Weird latin text on the side: "decus et tutamen". 2 of these weirdos. Token of some sort? Both sides of the coin are identical.
"pleidiol wyf i’m gwlad". is probably Welsh. And most of those seem like common, modern foreign, but I haven't looked any up. Others will likely chime in.
Hello and :welcome: You have 2.70 GBP face value of English coins, the ones with the weird text and Elizabeth II head on them. Most of your other coins are too common to be valuable.Your coins in the first post are German mainly Pfennigs and Austrian coins too. I hope you didn`t pay too much for these, sorry (If you have an interest in these all the better) Hope this helps
Welcome. I believe you will find your best investment in coin collecting right now would be a Krause book on world coins struck 1901-2000. Knowledge is key, and if you liek world coins try to go through that book and start to recognize common coins versus rarer ones so you can start to recognize a good deal when you see it. Knowledge is power in this hobby. Btw, an older volume for cheap is fine, since you are not really using the book for pricing as opposed to relative pricing. Save yourself some money and get an older edition. Besides, if you like world coinage, there is not much more fun than reading a huge ol book on them.
Thank you all for answering! My friend didn't pay anything for these coins, so its fine even they are practically worthless.
I wouldn`t say they`re worthless, its all down to what someone else would pay for them. They aren`t worth much now but will be at some time
Hello Keppu, This link describes a 1901 to 2000 World Coin Catalog for $16.95 with shiping included. The book describes details of the countries & the coins of the entire world. You will be hooked on collecting world coins for sure:smile. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-Standa...646?pt=US_Nonfiction_Book&hash=item2c634819f6 Hello poager23, From you description, I think your coin is simply damaged by someone with a drill. It is therefore worth about 25 cents. When you have a new question (on a new subject), you should start a new thread at CT. Welcome to CoinTalk (CT).
Keppu, All of the German pfennings and 2 marks are most likely not worth much in collectible value. However, I do not have my Krausse with me. So, that's not to say there isn't a low-mintage one from a specific mint. In general though, those are common.
