Yeah, me too. Finally broke down and paid through the nose for a 65 RD in pcgs plastic. These make the 31S look as common as a morgan dollar.
Heres a nice red 1993 and an experiment, a 1959 that was a basket case so I attempted to clean it, with ketchup!---John
I think I picked up a pretty good 1931 s. I am not really a penny collector, but it was a deal I couldn't pass.:smile
This is my first post in this thread, so I just picked up this beauty. Any guess on grade on this one?
Your reverse picture is a bit out of focus, but from what I can make out, that has got to be at least a 65.
Picked this up raw from eBay. Sent to PCGS for grading and a TrueView. This is not just red, but Iodine red. Interestingly, it came back an RB. The actual color is more vibrant than mine, but maybe a little less than Phil's......but not much.
Thanks guys, I was being brave and tried photographing this in the middle of the night. I'll work on some better shots tomorrow.
I just took better pics(my camera skills are not that good, sorry). Any kind of guess on the grade? It was advertised as BU, but it is either a weak strike or has slight circulation(IMO). Is it worth sending off to have slabbed? Thanks.
31-S's are noted for mushy strikes. I must say your pictures are not clear enough to know for sure, but I can make out no evidence of wear. As for slabbing, 31-S's pricing is about as flat as any coin ever. I would only consider slabbing if it were real nice i.e. 64 or higher.
