Dear all, I have added to my numismatic web project a new map with a repository of worldwide numismatic museums. I have just started the project so there are only about 10 museums into the map. If you want to help me, suggest me new museums and I will add them to the map. So maybe that someone of us will add a numismatic visit during his holidays ;-) The map is available here: http://www.nummusantiqua.com/index.php?option=com_phocamaps&view=map&id=1&Itemid=3462 Than everybody for any help or suggestion! Abramo
Shouldn't the Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City mint museums be on there? I'm not sure if New Orleands, Dahlgreen, West Point, or Manila have any coins on display currently. Are you including currency museums on the list? I know that Fort Worth, Texas offers tours at the Bureau of Engraving facility - would that belong on the list?
Riverguy beat me to saying the ANA museum in Colorado Springs. You can do a search at CT for "coin museum" and you will get a long list of threads describing coin museums around the world: http://www.cointalk.com/search.php?searchid=782552 For example, I noticed threads describing the New Orleans Mint museum and there was a thread about the coin museum in Aruba.....
thank you for your suggestion, I have added Denver and Philadelphia United States mint which have tours
Thank you, I have added the New Orleans Old mint museum, and I will look for other museums as you suggest me with CT search
The Monnaie de Paris has an excellent numismatic museum right on the Seine. Museo de Oro, San Jose, Costa Rica -- contains a considerable amount of numismatic material along with a lot of precolumbian gold artifacts. Bank of Japan Currency Museum, Tokyo -- excellent history of money in Japan, with some coverage of foreign money. There are undoubtedly other good ones out there, but I can vouch for these firsthand (and more importantly I can remember them off the top of my head ) BTW, the Carson City museum is actually the Nevada State Historical Museum; while it is in the mint building and does contain a few coins, its focus is much more on history than numismatics. There is or was a similar museum in the center of Dahlonega, although this one's not in the mint building.
