I took this into two shops here in Salt Lake. Both confirmed it is real but both shops would not give me a value. One of the shops said that he could find a buyer for $500, someone here in SLC collects nothing but $50.
Cool reverse overprint. Can't see the series but here are two similar (one Series 1985, one 1988) on eBay (not my auctions). Obviously listing price may not mean much but I can't find any completed ones to compare to: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1988-50-3RD-PRINT-MISSING-ON-FRONT-PRINTED-ON-BACK-/130472737817?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e60c7fc19#ht_3749wt_1258 http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-3rd-PRINT-OMITTED-PRINTED-ON-REVERSE-ERROR-/140454604384?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b3bf2e60#ht_3737wt_1258
Check Heritage and Teletrade, see if they have a history of sales. Could be worth upper 3 digits or more. You could also put it on ebay with a ridiculously high reserve to see what it's worth.
My US Error Note Encyclopedia has a Fifty with an Overprint on Back listed at $250.00 for Fine and $500.00 for XF. $1000.00 for CU. Yours looks to be Fine at least.
I swear more errors came from the series 77, and 81! Wud up wit dat? I would say It's a little better than Fine. Judging from the pictures it would fall in the mid and maybe high VF range, assuming the brown color is caused by your camera's white balance being off a little. Dang indoor lighting does that every time. Hey, how about some grading contest! Been a while, and those are fun!
cool, no one told me I get a generous give away gift for posting. Thats just too cool..... I am gonna go spam post every thread now
Cool error. Did you get this in circulation or was it handed down? I would check Heritage for completed listings for current value, but it looks to be in Fine condition and worth around $300-$400 based on my resources.
