I haven't seen one before, so just wondering if this is a "high 7".

I don't believe it is, but we should wait for one of the experts.

Don't think so. Just bought an uncirculated a week ago for $69.See mine below, 7 should be level
with 0 and inside loop of the 9 should point more towards the 7. Also LIBERTY will be weak especially
the B and E and Y. Bottom of your 7 looks to far below the 0.---John

None of the above are small date LMC'S. The '9' s aren't hooked enough. The '1' s are not even or taller than the '9's.
And the '7's tops are not thicker than there diagonal bottoms.

Easiest way to tell is like Johnvan said look for the date tops to be even with each other also look at the 9 it's called a fishhook nine where the curl and the tail of the nine both are pointed for the small date where as the large date are cut off and have a straighter edge to them. Also many times the date will literally look smaller compared to a large date and the small date will usually display weakened striking on LIBERTY according to the cherrypickers guide.

You're right! But, the 1st coin in post #4 is what I call a 3rd 1970-s variety (medium date) that looks different to me than the 2nd coin pictured. Note how the 1 and 0 on the 2nd coin are higher than the first coin. And, in hand, the inner loop of the 9 is squared in such a way that is appears to point east, similar to a small date. I think it's the variety that causes the most confusion for small dated identification, but I have not found this variety listed anywhere.
