I honestly don't believe int the redbook. Supply and demand is where it is at. It gives a good general idea but is worth its weight in lard. It was written a year before it was published. I know some members who operate off one every five years.

Yup, I got the 2012, not gonna buy this years just to get updates on mintage numbers for 2011, I can just look it up online when needed. ;)

I'm not buying another one til 2015 or 2016.
By that time I'll probably need the LARGE PRINT EDITION anyway ;)
I like the "professional edition" better anyway.

Mine is dated about 2002. Its current enough for me. My main beginning source for US coins is Breen anyway, and its about 25 years old now.

I'm with ya man! It's getting harder and harder to do with every passing year! It's one of the reasons I switched to Dansco albums recently.

It's a good deal if you're buying several. For example, our coin club usually buys a case each year... ends up being just over $9 per book. We sell them to the members for $12/book and the club makes a few bucks. Win-win for everyone since the club gets a little money and members can get the new edition in hand slightly cheaper than if they ordered themselves.

I get a new book every year. It's not a huge expense and the book is the best resource out there for the money. Whenever I get a new edition, I give my old copy to a YN who doesn't have a recent edition. Another win-win I think.

    My latest is a 2010 (the '09). I might buy next year's 2014 ('13) book.

IMHO you must have a red book if you collect US coins. Also, in my opinion, it does not have to be the most current edition. I have one that is a couple years old which has signatures from the good people I met at the summer seminar. It includes signatures from some rather famous folks & to be honest, I don't like handling it too much. For this reason I plan to buy a 2012 copy from a dealer. It will contribute in a small way to the local coin show economy.

This is why are economy is so screwed because no one buys from the U.S. anymore, also nothing is made in the U.S. Anymore.

This is why I try to buy from American companies first, everyone else is second even if it costs a little extra...

Well when people have the opportunity to buy cheaper they usually take it. No one in the US has the redbook for this price, however the UK does. So that goes to show you that american business are shooting themselves in the foot.

As far as the redbook....aren't new revisions and additions added every year?

The Redbook is great as an educational resource -- but not so much as a price guide. In this fast-paced Internet-based market, an annual guide is not going to be much use -- except maybe as a way of comparing relative values -- when prices can change overnight.

If you do buy the Redbook, however, save all your old copies because there will be a market for them in years to come, as there is now.

You do realize that Whitman Publishing is an American company, the books are printed in America. So even if you bought from this retailer who had to buy it from an American company, you're still supporting an American company per se, it's not like they printed the book themselves to sell. ;)
