It's always a happy surprise when I purchase a coin and the previous owner paid to have it imaged by PCGS. This is one of my newest acquisitions from a dealer in Greece. It's a beauty!
You have a nice herd there Ken. I especially like the Stone Mountain, but the others are nice too. Bruce
I can't let this thread "die". This one came today. It is VERY small...but quite beautiful. I like the prominent flow lines.
Nice piece! It is part of a series, by the way, that was inspired by earlier Irish coins. (This year they did the salmon, next year comes the hound.) We could also include two pieces from Slovenia; the first one is a 10 tolarjev coin from the pre-euro years, the second one is the current 20 cent coin. That latter piece explicitly refers to Lipica horses; Lipica is a famous horse farm/school close to the Italian border. Such a "Lipizzaner" can also be found on the Austrian 5 schilling coins issued in 1960~2000. The Hofreitschule (Spanish Riding School) in Vienna uses Lipizzaner horses, mostly from a stud farm in Piber, Austria. Christian
Kriegsnotgeld I assume that this is war money from Hanover. I made this assumption based upon the horse device found on many Hanover coins in my 1800 to 1900 Catalog. If anyone knows more about this piece, I would certainly like to hear from you.
It is "Kriegsnotgeld" or "Emergency Wartime Money" from the Duchy of Brunswick. See this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Brunswick
Familiar with "Hobson's Choice"? Here's a Conder token that's a tribute to Thomas Hobson, the Cambridge carrier.
