I was looking for a horse blanket for one of my horses, on ebay, and smack-dab in the middle of the listings came a horse blanket dollar bill (or, what?) It occurred to me to be an odd place to list paper currency, seemed obscure, and perhaps no one who really wanted one might find it amongst horsey stuff! It looked beautiful! I thought I would share in case someone might be looking for one! After I learn about them, well, maybe I'll SNIPE for one! (just kidding) (I'll see what the right price might be.) Lucy

Traditionally horse blankets are referred to large notes. It can be any denomination. The 1923 silver cert has been widely known as "the" horse blanket of the series for years.
Sometimes you can get a good deal on an item listed in the wrong category as potential buyers that may want to buy the item haven't found it, particularly if they only search or browse category listings... but similarly, be wary until you know more about any such item that seems listed out-of-context, as it may be intentionally put there to sell to those without requisite information about the condition and value of such a listing. You said the magic words though, "After I learn about them..." always do you homework first! There will come future chances to buy when you are better informed. On a side note, as you are now 'horsing around' as it were, flirting with sniping, after leaving another thread in a huff over the ethics (perhaps) of such auction bidding. It's worth noting that most boiled the topic down to a proven point, that so-called, 'sniping' doesn't exist. It's still just 'bidding' afterall, whether by automating the action or physically doing so in real-time. Any other use of the term appears to be self-aggrandizement, to suggest those bidders are somehow greater and faster than machine timed bids, other manual bidders and somehow by having won in a sliver of time, somehow better than the rest of the supposed interested parties in a given auction. It's all a load of horse manure I tell ya! I'm glad to see you can potentially connect two of your interests horses and numismatics (large size paper money, in this case) together. It makes both all the more meaningful and unique to you. :thumb:
If horses are your thing, there are many inexpensive world notes that depict horses. Do an Ebay search for horse* in World Paper Money.

Whoa! And I even see horse blankets on most of those!! (I know they are not horse blanket notes, just noticing..)(and kidding)(and wouldn't I love to have the blanket that is on horse number one for my Arab!) They are indeed beautiful. I am hesitant to look on ebay for horse*; I may find too many things I don't need to own! I am impressed with how much thought goes into the designs; they are all so complicated. Yes Lucy, large-size notes or "horse blankets" are definitely an area of paper money worth looking into. My favorite aspect are the vignettes as kookoox10 stated, but also the history behind these notes. Specifically, the history of paper money and how it has evolved since the 1860s captures my interest. I like seeing historical figures and presidents on bills that you would not usually see, as well as the different colors. For an example, my avatar is the 1899 silver certificate or "Black Eagle note", which is my favorite of all the large-size notes. Getting an idea of what piques your interest in this area will expand your collection and appreciation for these notes.
