This morning, without much thought, I ordered the Star Spangled Banner silver/gold proof set.
Then I realized I don't know how many of these sets or individual coins are going to be minted.
I think I read somewhere only 50,000 silver\gold proof sets will be sold.
I like the design of both coins.

Anybody know how many silver/gold proof sets be sold? How many individual gold or silver proofs will be sold?

    Thanks

The treasury will issue up to 100,000 gold $5 coins across all options, and up to 500,000 silver $1 coins across all options.

Nobody knows yet how many will be minted. The announced mintages are the maximum they will make, provided they sell that many. Last years commems fell far short of the maximum.

Are those going to be 1/10 oz?

It's going to be a 1/4 oz (well close enough: .24187 oz) with 90% composition, same as the half eagles since 1839.

Minted in 2014 I might have some interest, a 198th anniversary, not interested.

I ordered a BU and Proof Silver (or should I say a Matte Proof and traditional proof haha let the arguments being). I think the gold design is typical bland like they scanned a picture from a book. The silver however is stunning.

The brochure also mentions that both old US Mint blue packaging and new black branded packging will be used. It will be random with no choice by the buyer. They are trying to use up the blue packaging to save costs. So could we have a variation here?

Isn't that close enough for government work? Apparently, Francis Scott Key had a premonition in 1812 he was going to write a poem, but didn't actually do it until 1814. It makes about as much sense as the reason they gave for making Hot Springs the first coin issued in the America the Beautiful series. Maybe someday the Mint will be operated in the private sector where there are fewer dimwits.

    Because they're prettier! :)

I'm picky when it comes to commemorative's, the only other two I've bought in the past decade was the Lincoln and Bald Eagle. But when I do buy them, I just opt for the proof because I like perfection with these types of coins. I also just a collector, the value is non-relevant for me, so having one is good for me so might as well go with the proofs.

Don't count on it. You'll still have congress calling the shots on what products they will produce.
