Im looking to buy a liberty head nickel. I've always been fascinated with that one and the shield nickel. Sooo back to what I was saying. I found 2 different liberty head nickels and I want yall to see them and tell me if they are worth investing in.

Those pictures represent the first coin I was looking at. The coloring seems kinda wierd but it could be just the camera

I would definetely go with coin#2. coin #1 is worn pretty badly especially near miss liberty's ear. The second coin has nice frosting on the face and the reverse looks good as well. Some small spotting on the obverse but I don't think it will affect this coin too much. Nice

I agree, Coin# 2 is the better looking coin. Anyone else think Coin# 1 might've been gold plated? That is why they added CENTS after all.

So about how much would you pay for coin #2?

Looking at Coin# 2, my guess is an MS-63 grade, but don't take my word for it, i'm not a great grader. It lists for $45 on PCGS in MS-63, and 28 in MS-60, something in that range.

I would go with #2 if you want to go with one of these----this date is way too common so you won't have a problem finding one on down the road if you miss this one.
I would say about $10-$15 would be all I would pay for it....PCGS price guide is a hyped up price guide---also since this is a common coin most of them are UNC.
The photos aren't good enough to tell a grade.

I'd go #2 also, but if you find one with "CENTS" on the reverse its worth a lot more!

If you really want one that is superb you should wait otherwise I wouldn't go over $20 on this one

Sign up for Heritage and browse through their permanent auction archives. They also have a price guide, but it isn't perfect either.

The first one has been cleaned. The second one I would pay 15-25 for, maybe higher if it is UNC, but I can't tell from the pics.

I know I've said it before but invest in some guide books.....they've been very helpful to me. I like the Red Book because it'll give you info about coins you otherwise would never have known. At least it has for me. $15-16.

Absolutely. If no one is selling them in your area, try Walmart.com and check out thier book section. Buy the Red Book before you invest any more money on anything.

Stay away from coin #1 and anyone else using colored lighting or tilted coins when photographing their coins. This is just trickery and should be avoided. Coin #2 looks like a mid AU grade ,maybe better but I'd go no more than $15 - 20 without a better look. Good luck.
