I was at work the other day when I stumbled across a dime that was abnormally dark in colour. It's a graphite color rather than the normal silver colour. I've looked at it for a while now, and it really doesn't appear to just be dirty, as it is still quite shiny and the colour is consistent on both the front and back. The other thing I noticed about it was that it wasn't quite cut right. The edge is quite a bit thicker on the one side than on the other. I know I'm probably not using any of the right terms, but hopefully someone will know what I mean. Just in case, I have pictures! I put the dime next to two normal coloured ones, just to make sure I wasn't going crazy. It is the middle one. Unfortunately I only have a cellphone camera so the quality isn't excellent, but hopefully y'all will be able to see the difference in colour between them.
You are going to run across those quite a bit where the sides are not even. It is not off enough to be collectible. And some have color issues. May be pmd or may be planchet alloy issue
I didn't think it was worth much (if anything at all). I was just curious to see if anyone knew why it's dark grey/graphite, rather than silver
I have came across a lot of coins like this. I think they are just PMD or like a acid or weather damage.
