I was surprised to see this coin graded so highly. I checked the NGC certification site and the picture matches .

Question: Is it just a weak strike that passed as a MS 65? Or being a Russian coin, was it the vodka fumes that intoxicated the graders?

    Insight appreciated:

could we have apic of the reverse. it may just be a weak die, but cant tell just by looking at one side of the coin

Just as a casual glance, given the coin's age, i'd expect there to be a difference in coloration or texture of the metal if it were worn, and I see none.

I'm certainly no expert on that coin, but I can buy that's strike related, and not wear.

I'd bet it's just a really bad picture... No light it seems...

that seems to be an extreme example but I have certainly noticed that NGC seems to overgrade

Weak strike or not...it appears cleaned to me. Note the odd color and the crud around the plow handles and the man's head & shoulders.

I'd expect it to at least look as good as an AU58; maybe the '27 was a weaker strike....

I suppose that there was an error during part of the grading process.

Maybe they tried to hit "6" and their finger slipped and hit the "5" right afterward.

I don't think there's any question, they over-graded that coin.
