Cool....bid at 200 now....hey rocket can i borrow $250 bucks? I'll send you a pic when I get it.... :goofer:

I thought it MAYBE could grade EF40....but its a tough call...better be conservative and say VF30.

    I like a VF-25 grade. But I'd only pay $400-450 for it.

It's not really wise to to buy any raw coin on ebay that cost more than a few bucks unless you know the seller very well and have full confidence in them - or - you have full confidence in your ability to judge the coin based on a pic. And even then, how do you know the pic isn't altered, is accurate or is even of the same coin that you will receive ??

    Best bet - don't do it !

I wouldn't buy it. I'm about 90 percent sure the that coin is a 1928 s with the mintmark removed. Look closely guys, the area where the mint mark normally would be is quite scuffed, which is highly suspect IMO.

i noticed that as well.....but too late. There is still over 3 days left on it so hopefully I'll get outbid. Bid is at 200 right now.....that'll hurt.

If you're concerned just retract your bid. Just say you entered the wrong bid amount. Otherwise if you're confident you'll be outbid, you'll be fine that way also. All the bidding will happen the last day anyways.

Can't a silver dollar wiz (not me, obviously) say by looking if the coin was struck at Philadelphia or San Franscisco? I understood there were visual diagnostics other than the mint mark.

It almost looks as if the area where the mint mark should be has been treated with some kind of chemical, it ended up causing a break in the natural toning of the coin that is very distracting to the eye.

I think BQ has hit it. blow the area up, I would be really suspect on this coin. Good Job Zane in seeing that. Ask the seller to send you a high res scan of the mint mark area.

OK Guys I was gonna be quiet but I had to look at this this morning after the way this thread is heading. I work for HCC the dealer who is selling this coin .

I took a few pics. this morning #1 because I dont want any one to think this coin ahs been altered & #2 just cause I was curious myself.

I think the pic. on the Ebay listing is not as good as it could be. so here are some others.

In no way am I trying to "sell" this coin, I just want to answer some questions- :smile
