Spent the day with my son & grandson. We noshed on breakfast biscuits and I received in change from the fast food pickup a Statehood Impaired Proof quarter and an older nickel. Later we went to buy grandson some clothes for new school year at Walmart and I pulled a West Point quarter and a LWC out of our change. Although well circulated, definitely end of the year fun finds. New Jersey Statehood S mint 1946 Jeff Nickel Received in change from Walmart. West Point ATB Quarter 1940 LWC
OK the first one is Ellis Island ATB not New Jersey state. The Main Building, housing the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration, is within the boundary of New York State. Since the island was expanded over many years to its current 27.5 acres, this expanded area is now mostly within the territory of New Jersey. Nice coins. I never get S or W coins in change although have gotten them CRH. And I did pull an S out of a Coin Star. I got an S quarter metal detecting, but no W's. I think wheaties are all I get in circulation these days.
Thanks for the correction. Noticed my faux pas this morning. To my knowledge none of my relatives arrived through Ellis Island. One settled in New Amsterdam after being ship wrecked in the 1630s. One of my mom's cousins lived in Jersey and worked a summer job handing out literature about the Island's immigration history. I check coin stars often and never snagged a S proof from them. Mostly just beat up Zincolns.
