I have the chance to purchas the following lot for 150. Whats your opinion? Mint sets: 73,74,75,76 &, 80 Proof sets: 88,89 &,90 Silver proof sets: 95,96 &,97 A 1971 silver ike All in orig. Mint packaging. Is 150 too much? Seems a bit more than the blue book value. feedback please?
It's no steal, but I don't think it's a bad deal either if you want those sets. Figure $40 a piece for the silver sets, that leaves less than $4 each for the remaining
Actually I'd say that's a decent deal. Blue book value is good for dealers, are you a dealer buying these to resell? Also the blue book is just like the red book, once it's printed it's already outdated. I've seen those mint sets go for anywhere between 10-20 dollars each, the silver proof sets are about $25 or more. The other proof sets are about worth face value to me, don't spend more than 6-10 bucks for those.
Personally I would not spend $150 for that. More like $120 is where I'd go. Put the silver proofs at $25 each, those mint sets I recently got at a local auction for $5 each and the other three proof sets I would not pay more than $3 each. For the Ike, I'd pay $11.
It's not a bad deal, but it's also not the deal of the century either. Also, do not go buy any book, regardless of it's color, for accurate pricing information. By the time the book is published and on the shelves, the price guide info is outdated. Check completed sales from some online sources and get an range of lowest and highest.
Thanks folks. I am not a dealer but have both red abd blue book They are by no means a bible but mor like an atlas for me. The seller origionally asked 300 which i thought to be quite steep. wouldnt mind having the uncirc mint sets. The 70s proof sets i seem to find at markets and such for 3-6 bucks any day. Thanks for all the input friends W
