There's something wrong with this picture where an eBay seller has more Gobrecht dollars than what possibly exists. Anyways take a look and tell me what you guys think.

Seems they got their dies mixed up. I thought the no stars obverse was only paired with the starred reverse and vise-versa.

Anybody who buys an $11,750.00 raw coin off eBay is crazy. Anybody who doesn't slab an $11,750.00 dollar coin is also crazy...unless, of course, it is a counterfeit.

I noticed that too, something smells fishy...

Way too many, and they're all in the same grade? something is wrong. And with a coin like that it makes more sense to slab it and sell it on Heritage.

It is a fake. Buy slab coins

I reported it to eBay as posibble fraud. Let them take a good look at it. You can't have ten circulated 170 year old coins that all look a like. There should be ten different photo's showing each ones' wear.

it's actually like 20 pictures of the same coin. Either he's trying to make it look like he has many of them or he's really trying to make sure the seller gets a good view of it.

This coin was (and is) heavily counterfeited. It appears to be a copper restrike (from the early 1860's), but is more than likely fake. It doesn't make sense to have a coin this rare and not have it slabbed. I think the "more than ten available" is a mistake in formatting.

Quantity says more than 10 available.

As I stated above, I believe that's a mistake in formatting the auction page. Of course, if it's fake, he could have many more than ten.

If it is a fake it's a good one. All the pictures are obviously of the same coin. I think he probably has one coin and erred in formatting the auction.

You would think for such an expensive coin, he could at least get some decent photos.

I'm apparently missing your point as well. There are no stars on the obv, and there shouldn't be any stars on the obverse. So what's the problem?

The stars are correct, this is a starred reverse, paired with a non-starred obverse. It also has the onward and upward eagle, which indicates it is not from the re-strikes that we're minted in the 1850's and 60's.

The more than 10 available is a mistake. Interesting enough this guy does sell replica Gobrecht's but they are sold as replica's and are uncirculated. He sells these with more than 10 available, so he probably started with the same "template"

So, is this coin real, I don't know, but I do not see anything that screams fake. The denticles look good to me so I don't think it is a cast fake.

Now, of course you would have to be nuts to buy the coin for several reasons besides being a possible fake. It is near impossible to sell from the pic's what scratches are on the coin and what are on the plastic.

Also, it is way, way over priced if it is real.

Interesting though, would a guy who openly sells replica's try to sell one as real?
