Just wondering what you all think about this Cent. I recently purchased it at an auction in the back of an old used car lot! It was really my first non-silver purchase, and was wondering what it may be graded.

These are the best pics I can manage(scanner is busted).

    Thanks in advance!

A better focused picture would be good. They usually sell for $20-25 with that amount of wear for that year. Nice coin!

    Thanks!!

Is that a lot of wear for that year?

I will attempt to get a better pic tonight and post it. I was hoping it would go for a little more, but I am new to this so there will be some growing pains!

Not a lot IMO, but from the picture it looks a bit worn. Search Ebay for 1853 Large Cent and you'll get a good idea of the selling prices for different grades of these.

I may be wrong, but it looks like it's been cleaned.

I also think it looks to have been cleaned, and then re-toned.

i would agree. it's hard to tell the exact color of the picture, but if that copper is more on the pinkish side, it is almost certainly cleaned. that i find is pretty common on old large cents that are in antique stores, non-coin auctions, etc.

Here are some updated pics. The color is definitely not pinkish, I would say Red-Brown. But I am a noob so I am not sure.
