Hi all, New here, looks like a great forum. First post. I just got this 1934 P Quarter with really nice luster and appears to be in pretty good shape. Wondering what you all would value or grade it as? Picking the hobby back up after many years off so I'm a little rusty. I didn't pay much so I'm curious if I got a good deal at all (I know these guys rarely have high value). Thanks for your input!
I don't know values very well, but I think the surface friction may turn it down to an AU-58 or MS-60.
Here's two in about the same condition as yours: http://www.ebay.com/sch/vette1986/m...&_odkw=&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3911.c0.m270.l1313
Nice looking Washington. A bit of circulation wear to it, appears to have good luster. I'd say 62, good shot for a 63, in those grades anywhere from $7.50 - $9.
What? You claim it has "circulation wear" yet you grade it at least 62 with a shot at 63? Very interesting.... so which is it? A "MS62" 34-P at a buck over melt, great advice buddy!
It would depend on the degree of the wear. Could just be graininess from the pics I'm seeing too. Proof positive why grading from online pics is iffy at best.
Hey buddy! A "bit" of "circulation wear" (with circulation being the key word) would mean the coin is "UNcirculated", right? Why try to justify your poor terminology? I know what you meant and am sure others did too, but does everyone? How 'bout the newbies hoping to learn something? The OP? And nothing about how a borderline AU63 is worth $7.50-$9?
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight! PS..... I mis-spelled a word, if you want to correct it!
the reverse looks MS so the obverse could just be scuffed up without wear. i give it a MS grade but can't tell number from pics. BTW I don't know what a slightly worn MS62 is myself?
To the rescue, how sweet! If you want to slam me for trying to correct confusing or misleading posts, that's your call. There may be someone here who will appreciate more than an off the cuff, very contradictory response as given by the one poster, maybe even the OP himself. While you and some others may not take this seriously, I do. How would you feel if someone, after taking to heart some of the highly questionable advice given here, went out and lost their shirt or way overpaid on a coin all because they took it as fact? Do you understand how many people have been turned off from this hobby because of bad advice or false claims? Think about it and if you still want to poke your childish fun, by all means ma'am, please feel free.
You are correct. In the provided images, the reverse does appear as if it could possibly grade uncirculated, but there is far too much going on on the obverse for the overall coin to be conservatively graded MS. The coin also looks to have been overdipped. It is not uncommon for this type to have a reverse that will grade MS while the obverse is AU. This is mostly due to the relief and design elements. Morgans are another type where this issue is common. I don't know how a borderline MS63 is worth only 25% bid (63) and am still waiting to hear why pennsteve thinks we need to look at the MS66 coin on photograde. I have this funny feeling we will be waiting a long, long time for an answer.
