ok all my research on here. i have come down to decide that i should keep the following coins i had questions about.. i am keeping my (3) 1964 JFK halves, (6) 1965-70 JFK halves but yet. it is 100% sure the 71-Date are worth just face.. i want to be sure and a website i use for melt prices tells me to save the Esinhower Dollars from 1971 to 1976 b/c they are 40% silver.. i have 30 of them dating from 1972-1974 so i am keeping them but the BICENTENNIAL year is the 1976 coin. so im not sure if i should save that those as i dont know if they have 40% silver? it says save the year '76 so im assuming the 1776-1976 dollar is the 76 dollar they tell me to save thanks
Are you asking about the composition of the bicentennial ike? http://eisenhowerdollarguide.com/1976-eisenhower-dollar/
im still new at this so idk how to tell what 71-76 are silver for an IKE, just silvermeltvalues.com tell me to keep all of those years.. cuz they are 40% silver.. ik the JFK 71 to Date are face but the ikes confuse me cuz the 72 year has a few error marks i hear. but i was just wondering if i can count a bicentennial IKE in the 71-76 years for 40% b/c then i would have 39 ikes and not 30 that are 40% silver
Cadillac. The 1971 Kennedy's are just loaded with doubled dies. Gather up about $20 and pick up the Treasure Hunting Franklin and Kennedy Half Dollars book. It is loaded woth information. The latest release of the CPG (Cherry Pickers Guide) has some collectible copper nickel Kennedy's as well. Here's an eBay auction which closed Sunday Evening: http://www.ebay.com/itm/250997215983?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Remember that just because the coins have no silver in them does NOT mean that they are not collectible. Some of these coins sell for significant premiums AND there are quite possibly some undiscovered DDO and DDR coins still out there. Odds are you don't have any silver Ikes. The only non-proof Ikes that have any silver content come in Mint packaging (Blue Ikes), and while people have cut them out, as I have for the ones in my Dansco book, you probably don't have any. They are all S mintmark I believe. And the 1972 Ikes have 3 reverses. The Type II (the "King" of Ikes) is the rarest coin in the Ike series, not counting other minor stuff. You can tell easiest by the moon on the reverse, there's a website that will show you what you're looking for. The 1976 ones have 2 types too, but neither is very rare. EDIT: I've never been to your silvermeltvalues.com, but coinflation.com is kind of the go-to site for metal values in coins. It's a great site.
For heaven's sake, go buy a Red Book. For a small investment of money and a few hours spent reading it you will gain a substantial numismatic education
The only Ikes with 40% silver clad composition were struck for the uncirculated and proof sets, and the bicentennial 3 coin silver set. There were a small number of 74-D and 77-D Ikes struck in silver by mistake.
Personally, I would take the bicentennial dollars and go to the drug store and buy yourself some Tylenol or something. Because this headache you're having is not doing you any good. Then buy a Red Book
i have a red book. doesnt tell me what i have to look for, no does it tell a newbe how to find out everything in one day. im learning and im seeking help. some sites say all 71-76 have sliver.. others say no.. idk how to tell. and a 5$ book does not help either thank you to everybody but ThecoinGeezer.. your comments were all helpful. no need to jam coins in teh safe.. rather use that to coin roll hunt or something
Correct me if I'm wrong but the weight of silver Ikes is different than the cupro-nickel ones, so...weighing them will tell you.
oh, and CadillacKid: Respect your elders. If you're asking for help don't be upset if someone gives you advice...You asked for it. If it isn't helpful (to you) just move on. I'm sure thecoingeezer meant well. BTW - On coinflation.com there is a release under the Ike section that tells you the weight of each to verify which you have.
If you did have a Red Book and were able to use it properly, it most certainly would have answered your questions about Ike dollars.
OK guy's ease off here the guy is new so try having some understanding and remember we were all new at this once If you dont have any positive comments then dont comment
