Guy has a bunch of 49 and 58 dollars. I bought two for $25 each. Any idea of their approx worth? If I can make $10 each on them I will buy them all. Is this 49 a proof? VERY mirror like.
Melt is $21.22. Those look better than "junk". If it were me, I'd probably do my research on ebay. That is where I would go to flip them.
Those are always desirable years because they commemorate events in Canada. The downside is that the RCM minted a lot during these two years. From the examples you provided, these will fetch exactly how much you paid for them. Sterling, uncleaned, specimen proof-like pieces will make you money, but you would have to get them graded first.
Maybe his question should have been worded "Are these worth $25 each, or MORE?" If you're paying $25 for those, it's probably a good bet that it's close to spot. I mean, you know they're silver, you know they're .800, so it's a good bet that's an ok price. Plus, they're higher grades. Detecto, are you Canadian?
Why would you say he overpayed . If he likes the coins and is happy with the price that's all that matters . There's always someone who can get some coins cheaper , and people who think they always can get them cheaper, problem with that is you usually get inferior coins for the money you save .
You're absolutely right, what does it matter what he paid if he likes the coins. Apparently he takes what he pays to what he has to show for it to heart. Which is why we see an abundance of posts of his "buy first/ask questions later" purchases. It's kind of backwards, and with that frequency of threads, will attract the sometimes smart aleck attitude. I am inviting Detecto to actually consult with us before he makes these snap decisions. For one, he will only be helping himself educate, and two, he will become a smarter shopper in the future. Up to this point, I would say he's gotten away with some things, but it's only a matter of time...
Well I bought them for their silver content. I know they are worth $25, and I should have said are they worth MORE than $25. He wants to sell me 16 more of them. A 49 and a 58 sold for $40 each on feebay. After fees I can make about $10 each on these. He said if I buy 16 more it would be $23.75 each ($380).
Do you receive something for being rude or is it just for person gain? Over paying a whopping $3 per ounce for anything silver is far from over paying.
Not at all, don't take what is said in "text" as being rude or nice. And you are correct, it is just three bucks, but if you take all the coins that you overpaid in the span of your hobby and put it together, how much could be saved? I would say quite a bit. I'm not punishing the OP, I would like to help him, take it from someone who has been in the hobby for over 20 years and specializing in canadian for ten. I can use a few students and understudys.
The 49s generally are common in proof-like condition. It is a very common coin, as is the 58. I can get CERTIFIED 49s on eBay in MS64 for $40 all day long. Uncertified BU examples generally sell for a tad over melt.
I like the coins Detecto, and think you did fine. However, I would strongly urge you to start researching coins better before pulling the trigger on anything other than bullion. The guys here are right, you will get burned someday. We all have, which is why we are trying to save you from our mistakes man. Knowledge really is power in this hobby. Chris
He wants to sell me ALL of them. Although are are BU, should I take the risk? I got him down to 23.75 each for all 16 ($375).
