I plan on bidding on these two coins and I don't want to overpay for them so could you guys help me out. Here are the links http://auctions.overstock.com/item/25423783 http://cgi.ebay.com/Rarest-YET-1913...5QQihZ021QQcategoryZ39470QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Thanks Scott
Raw, Unslabbed proof with strange toning. I'd let this one go (Overstock) Again, an unslabbed RARE and VALUABLE coin not professionally graded. I would love to have the indian Gold, but if it was graded and authenticated, I would want it even more. MY final verdict, LET THEM GO.
I am sorry I can not help out. The one thing I can say about greatsoutherncoins (as with any dealer) is they tend to "over-express" the grade. Not saying the coins are bad - but I think they over-grade at times and people sometimes take them at their word without question. They do usually have quality pictures and it makes it easy for me to determine what I will bid. Second for the indian - I think it was smart to come here and ask for help. I agree with YNcoinpro_U.S - even though I really can only look at my grading book I think I see signs of wear. I must admit it does look nice I am not sure it would grade out that high. He really only promises a 30 day time limit(buy it now) - so you send it in and get it graded. You pay the costs, but he will refund the 11,500 - not any other costs. I really dislike auctions where they pitch all the possibilities of what it might grade at and sell for. If it was so damn valuable why don't they get it graded with PCGS!! No refunds with out buy it now! AND WHO the heck are the crooks he says to stay away from his auctions and bidders. And he wants to boycott PAYPAL - I personally like PAYPAL as a buyer. Even though the seller may be honest he did things in the auction listing that would make me skip it. Finish this by saying that sometimes you can get steals on Ebay - but know the coin and do research on the prices they bring. Search EBAY and Heritage for closed auctions. Patience can be a virtue - wait long enough and you might get the quality coin at great price. Rambling I know and just my own opinion.
I agree with the guys above! Run away, especially from the gold! That guy's feedback alone is enough to run away!
I wouldnt bid period on a coin that valuable and not being in a TPG. Not even for the grade as much as is it REAL?
I know nothing about this dealer but it is a slabbed coin. NGC MS61 $2895 http://www.hokanson-coins.com/mm5/m...ode=HOK&Product_Code=827&Category_Code=USCO5G NGC MS58 $995 http://www.hokanson-coins.com/mm5/m...ode=HOK&Product_Code=826&Category_Code=USCO5G
I could find a lot better things to spend THAT much money on (graded coins)! I'd have a REAL hard time spending THAT much money on something sold on eBay.
scottyb - It seems that you want to buy expensive, high grade coins. Well, that can be a good thing. But in order for it to be a good thing you either need to be very experienced yourself or else trust someone else who is. I mean no disrespect, but I would suggest that you do the latter. You will be much better served and much happier in the long run. You will also save yourself a lot of potentially wasted money. Now, if you wish, I would be more than happy to provide you with the information necessary for you to contact a coin dealer that I know personally. I have known him for quite a few years, done a lot of business with him, and trust him 100%. I could not possibly give anyone a higher recommendation. I would trust the man with my child. So - what would you like to do ?
That first coin is artificially toned. The second I would stay away from, as those coins seem to be the most frequently counterfeited type of coin.
scottyb, you have received some great advice here! Taking this recommendation may be one of the best things you ever do in numismatics.
