This year I got a total of 13 Roman coins: Julian II - AE Nummus Maximinus I Thrax - Denarius Vitellius - Denarius Julius Caesar (Elephant) Denarius Balbinus - Denarius Valerian II - Double-Denarius Otho - Denarius Carausius - Double-Denarius Valerius Severus (II) - I think this is a Quarter Nummus Galerius - Aurelianianus Hostilian - Double-Denarius Victorinus - Double-Denarius Postumus - Double-Denarius I also have a number off at NGC being graded, including some of the above. Getting very close to my goal of all Emperors from Caesar to Constantine, just need the following now: Caligula Claudius Didius Julianus Pescennius Niger Gordian I Gordian II Pupienus I’m now expanding into minor Western Usurpers, the Gallic Empire, and Eastern Emperors through 476 as the above can be found but are not cheap.
@CharlesTheBald How many total coins does your original set include? How many will make up the new set?
If we want to break the collecting goals down to sets (Emperors and Caesars): Roman Emperors from Julius Caesar to fall of Western Rome: Julius Caesar to Constantine 44 BC to 325 AD - 70 coins (I have 59) The Constantines to Odoacer - 33.coins (I have 11) Usurpers - 30 coins Gallic Empire - 5 coins (I have 2 now) Eastern Emperors to fall of Western Rome - 13 coins (I have 1 now) Lists to completion may vary… Working on some new photos, my older posts should contain some previous ones.
Pics or it didnt happen! That's quite the challange. I dont know your budget, of course, but some of these are difficuly issues to obtain no matter how big your budget is...!
This is going to be like the 3000 days of Christmas…. Julius Caesar (Elephant Edition, crossing the Rubicon)
I really like the Julius Caesar denarius! Really nice centering and surfaces on that one! Congratulations!
I buy them slabbed when I can, which is the majority of them. If they are loose when I buy them (usually at shows), I send them off in bulk to NGC. Have 7 there right now. A few I won’t slab like the Julius Caesar.
