hey guys the listing on ebay today was for 3 Walking Lib Coins. a 1916 P, 1916 D, and a KEY DATE 1916 S!

this was my first buy off ebay and i want to see if you think i did a god job? can anybody list what they would pay for these three coins TOTAL with the pictures provided, as they were all i had to look at

and what you would value each one at. i have the 1916 P just a little above melt around 15$, the 1916 D i would put maybe $25 on it and the S mint is great shape i would put a G-4 grade on it and self price it at around $85-$90

1916 P is BOTTOM LEFT, 1916 D is TOP CENTER and 1916 S is BOTTOM RIGHT

1916 S close up (pretty good shape) in my opinion

if any body again can help and just list what they would have bought all 3 for. as i got them all total for $72.00 to my doorstep is this a good buy. is the 1916 S in good enough shape where it paid for the 3 coins itself w/ a little profit?

    thanks everybody

if your happy then that's what counts. I'm a walker nut myself but i wouldn't have bought any of them. just too worn for a collector IMO.

I can agree and disagree there. I like handeling my coins and a worn one has history. And that i kinda like

I think $72 was a good price for the 3. I would put the 16-P & 16-D at Fair-02 & the 16-S at borderline G-04. These are good starters, as if you upgrade to better ones later.
16-S is the best of the 3 and the lowest mintage of the 3. Therefore you bought the 16-S and the other 2 were Free ;)

i figured i might be able to get 80$ off the S mint basically getting the other for free like u said.. at borderline G-4 would u say its around 80$ for the S mint? or less

  10. Maybe it's just me, but why do some people insist on paying a good amount of money on coins they have no idea about? THEN ask if they got a good deal. I think it would be more productive to inform yourself before making such decisions.

i think cadallic knows enough about his purchase, and just wants to see how he did. grading is a highly subjective thing as are the price guides, so he's consulting some others. it make sense to me.

personally, they are a little too worn for me. i try to get g-4 or better. as i recall i probably paid something around 60 for my 16s, maybe only a little better condition than yours. and i got mine from a dealer who has pretty low prices. you think 10 for each of the common dates, the 50 you spent for the key date sounds pretty good.

i thought my 16 S was G-4 but nothing less. i put a price of 80$ on it when i looked at it.. thinking the other ones are just free, but if i only get 50$ for it, i learned something. i just didnt want to over pay! lol i rather break even and have a cool coin. or even have the 16 S be wroth like 100$ (wishful thinking)

  14. If someone knows enough about what they are buying, why would they need to consult others to see if the got a deal or not? Seems to me, they should know if they did get a good deal or not.

Im not trying to be a bully here, I just hate to see people spend their money and then find out they got ripped (not saying he did). Even Caddy mentioned he's new at this.

from what little i know it seemed that a G-4 16 S goes for 120$ so i guessed i can get 80$ for it. so i thougth 72$ was great for all 3 1916 coins. i didnt know that the 1916 S would be looked at as that low in price. i just hope i didnt pay over what i should have..

i just wanted to see what u guys thought. if i can pat my self on the back for a first time buy

do you think all 3 are alteast 72$???

  16. Honestly, I don't know enough about the series to give an opinion on the value based on the photos. I hope you did well.

Obviously The OP is satisfied with the coins he bought. I think he's asking confirmation that he didn't get screwed from people he respects their opinion on BS.

kind of... i was just wondering what you would appraise each coin by looking at the pictures? and would u have paid 72$ or less. i was hoping the 16 S paid for it all in value alone..

a 1916 set is a cool collection but was just wondering what you would appraise each coin at. and does it total less or more than 72$

In all honesty, the P and D are F2's and would need the right buyer to be valued above melt. The 16-S is AG at best, and while a good date, its very low grade and the skirt dig limits its desirability and therefore its value. While collectible value all depends on the buyer and it may be worth more to some people than to others. Were it my coin, I'd be happy to walk away with $50.

From what I can see in your images, all look to be decent original coins for their respective grades, which is a definite plus. Did you get a bad deal? No. Was it a great deal? No, but you did okay considering it was a newbie buy. I have seen a heck of a lot worse. All of this is meaningless though. If you like the coins, this is all that really matters.

    1) When do you "know enough" that you no longer benefit from the opinions of others?

    2) How can you tell when you "know enough", as opposed to merely being overconfident?

I don't think you're being a bully, but I'd rather see someone come here for coaching after a purchase than not come at all; sometimes coming here before a purchase isn't practical. (And sometimes, I suppose, you don't want to draw more competition to an auction... :))
