Baltimore is one of the best shows in the country! There are hundreds of dealers, great exhibits, and lots of wonderful restaurants within walking distance. I will be set up at a new (closer) table this year - No. 755. Todd/BluCCPhotos will be set up with me taking on site coin photos so be sure to bring your collection for him to photograph - you will NOT be disappointed!
What is the show like on Sunday? I'm stuck with family stuff friday and saturday but want to see the show. How many dealers will be gone?
I sure hope it's much better than last year. Nothing really cool or exciting last year. Just the same old, common stuff in average grades.
I usually try to avoid the high prices of hotels around Baltimore and stay in a motel 20 miles or more north, available for around $50 a night. I'd like to hear feedback on the best options people find on motel/hotels. I even stayed in a hostel once that offered a bunk for around $25 in a Baltimore neighborhood. The one day Albany and Parsippany shows are this weekend which are usually quite active.
You aren't going to find a better show close to home. Go Friday or Saturday. Not good. On Sunday you'll find about half the tables empty. Many dealers have gone home. You must have been looking in a different area than I was. As for "Nothing really cool or exciting ..." that could be if you're expecting displays. For displays you need to attend an ANA convention.
I can understand the problem your expenses cause. That's why I've never been to a FUN show. I could get a good coin for the cost of travel and lodging for a Florida trip. Whitman has quite a few shows each year. But they always have 3 per year in Baltimore (March, June & November). The location always works. I don't think there's any other location with more than one. The ones they had in Philadelphia and Nashville were weak. I've been to Philly (September) twice, but no more. In fact because of some sort of scheduling conflict there will be no Philly show this year. I suspect Whitman is thankful for the break. But I believe they'll be back next year.
Even if I were a millionaire I would refuse to pay over $100 a night for a motel/hotel room unless it was the only option; I would rather pitch a tent or sleep in the back of my Subaru at a Walmart. I feel alienated in a great big hotel room with nothing to do there but sleep and channel surf. Many people do not like to share rooms because of people who snore or those who have odd habits.
I plan on heading there with less than 500. (got one coin in mind) My main goal is going to be get some decent reference material/supplies. Other than that I plan on taking a few coins to haggle/trade/sell (1855 $3 dollar gold piece).
I can't wait. I have a few coins waiting for me to pick up when I get there. I wish I could spend all weekend there digging through dealer inventories. There is a Barber Coin Collector's Society table along with the Liberty Seated Collector's Club. Both will be set up at table 1558 if anyone is interested.
I'm coming down on Friday with Merlin so maybe we'll see you there Dave. It's always a great show but I always run out of money before I run out of things to buy. Gotta win that lottery! Bruce
This is my Hometown 15 minutes away from the House I bought year 2005. Glenn Burnie. I still have one place to stay in Annapolis, Maryland. I love this Baltimore Coin Show of MARYLAND. A 12th Year anniversary of Penny On Dime 1995 certified by Mr. ALAN HAGER of ACCUGRADE March of 2000.
