I recently viewed a roll of Uncirculated 1963 Franklin Half dollars from my father's collection and came across one that had an irregular edge. When I say irregular, it is probaly .25 inch line taken out of the edge of the coin. Has anyone heard of misstruck Franklins? and how can ascertain the value. Thanks in advance.
sounds like a bar edge clip where the blank was punched out of the edge of the bar sheet and wasn't totally on the sheet. It can happen on any coin. I even have a few cents with this particular error. It adds a small premium to the coin usually not much more over its value maybe 10 to 25%. Post a pic for us.
Thanks Thanks, for your comment. Now that I have looked at it closely it looks like a small piece was taken out of the coin.
Close up of Franklin clip error Thanks again, I just happen to take a close up of the clip error if you want to see a little detail. How did you determine the value? Is there a book about coin errors? Thanks again.
Nice error---just don't clean it and please hold it by the rims (edge) because if you put your fingers on the "face" of the coin fingerprints will show up down the road and lower the value about by 50%. The way we find prices is by what others have sold for that are like yours. Speedy
