1989 P quarter missing layer????

    Got this one today in my change at dunkin donuts this morning, I think its missing a clad layer or something??? Its very hard to capture the color with my camera but did my best.

    No. What you have here, sir, is a circulated example placed next to a mint-state example.

    Generally speaking, if a "clad" layer were missing, the coin would exhibit a weak strike. Your coin looks fully struck.

    Copper Nickel reacts differently to different environmental situations and contaminants. I expect that your coin is simply discolored due to some environmental mishap which occured after it was minted.
