I know this question doesn't pertain exclusively to collecting but I was hoping for the largest audience regarding it. Mods, feel free to move it if need be. The round vise and collet that so many of the carvers use.....does anyone know where you could obtain one? I've searched and scoured the web but have come up empty handed. Or do these guys make their own? I know a lot of them have a machinists' background. Thanks for your answers guys......
hi mr green go to grizzly.com they have the vices and holders i think you want at a reasonable cost. you will want the one that holds a 5c collect. don't know what size you want but they have a vast amount of sizes. good luck , hope this helps
I want to know too. I have a diamond tipped engravers tool, but that only produces one type of scoring mark. I'm interested in what the other "tools of the trade" are.
Here is a link I posted in another thread. It's how one person creates his art nickels. I know this isn't any help to you Ken, but it may be of interest to anyone reading this thread. This guy makes it look easy. How I Create Hobos ~ John L. Schipp http://www.hobonickels.org/jana.htm edit: wanted to add this picture of some sweet hobos.
Don't know if you came across this one in your searching, but you might find some info here.http://www.engravingforum.com/index.php?
@tara lindsey , you might get a better response by starting a separate thread. From what little I know, evidence of a "vise job" would be reversed lettering, devices, etc. Hope that makes sense. Post a picture here or in the thread you create. Probably the easiest way to get informed opinions.
