Hi, this is my first entry on cointalk. My father passed away this year and left me over 900lbs of wheat back pennies. I have been going through them for weeks. I ran accross an interesting 1941 plain penny. It appears to have a partial UNITED STATES stamped on the front of the coin. It also looks like this coin has had a hard life. Has anyone ever seen a coin like this before?

do you know what the second word is? it looks like somebody put some sort of thing on the coin and then put it on a railroad track.

Yes i think i know what the second word is. If you look close, I think it is the reverse of the coin. It is part of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA lable. I think.

What's the other side of the coin look like? My guess is someone used a hole punch and punched out the center of the coin and then flipped the plug over and reinserted it back in the hole.
I'm fairly certain that this didn't happen while the coin was being struck so however it was done it's PMD.

The back is much like the front except that the circle of copper is blank. I will try and put a new picture on of the back. 1941 error coin-2.jpg
