It is difficult to be certain from the photos but I think it is just a little visible oxidation of the metal at the rim. You have the coin in hand. You should be able to see if it is a scrape or if it is just toning of the silver metal. I'm guessing it is just toning of the silver metal.
Store your coins in a cool dry (secure) place. Do not store them in an area where the temperature changes with the daytime & season. Typically, is is not recommended to store your coins near an outside wall or in an attic because of the temperature fluctuations.
Sell it on Ebay for 3 times the price as a rare toned 98 silver half. I bet not many people have those.
so you sure its toning? does it devalves the price of the coin? because i wanted to buy a perfect coin and iam not satisfied with the rimm:/
Hmm, second to last coin I need to complete my Kennedy Proof set. Assuming its not good enough for your collection due to rim toning, and either SP69 or SP70, want to get rid of that damaged coin and sell it to me real cheap?
99.9% sure. But if you don't like it, send it back. No sense keeping a coin you are not happy with. You'll never change your mind, it'll bug you forever. And what 19 says is true, there is no such thing as a perfect coin. Sounds like what you're saying is that you wanted to buy a 70 coin. But contrary to what people think, even a 70 is not perfect. And a little toning like that wouldn't necessarily stop a coin from getting a 70. Or, the toning may not have showed up until after the coin was slabbed. Or, maybe the coin was dipped in MS70 to get rid of slight toning before it was sent in for grading and the toning came back after it was graded.
hi does a little tone on the rimm degrade the cost of coin (comparing to SP70 without toning)... if yes, than by which percentage (if the tone is like on my picture) i want to know if i made a good deal and if i should keep the coin regardless of the tone i bought it in ebay auction for 380 dollars
The coin is included into the Kennedy proof set on the NGC registry. I think it is what he is talking about.
