It's not about what you paid. You liked the coin and bought it for that. It's the same deal no matter what people here say the price "should" be. You'd never buy anything if you new the best prices...as you can always find stuff cheaper elsewhere. It's a great coin. Enjoy it!
Nice coin! I'd like to have an early half dollar like that some day Doesn't seem like too bad of a deal to me...
Like others have said, if you like the coin you are fine. All of us have overpaid for coins. Btw, when I talk about pricing, please remember I am extremely cheap.
Do you collect for investment or for hobby/fun? If you collect for fun and as your hobby, who cares what you paid as long as you enjoy the coin. Price doesn't matter if it equates to you having a smile on your face.
I see a VF-35 Obverse with a borderline xf-40 here. Don't beat yourself up too bad about it. Still a nice coin. I would have liked to get it around 100-115.
Yup, I've been over paying for a few early Jefferson Nickels for my complete set I'm assembling which I'm going for BU or better and trying to at least get each year/mint with steps on the reverse. I can say I overspent a few times, but once I set my eyes on a few and didn't feel like searching further as the prices went up, I just didn't care and I'm sure I ticked off a few eBayers driving the prices up who seem to be doing the same thing I might be.
I collect for fun, but I bought this coin for an investment I thought. Its okay though because like I said earlier I really like it. It's my oldest coin I have and its something different from all the pennies I have.
A while back I posted this bust half, which I paid $50 for. It has a re-engraved hasp and some tooling...
Still a great coin, there are far worse choices you could have overpaid on. Enjoy the coin, that's all that matters.
With these, you always have the chance of picking up a rare unattributed variety. Unfortunately, if I read things right, this is O-103, which is reasonably common. Definitely a cool coin, though.
Overton number. Overton wrote the book literally on these, and there are many varieties of each date. He was giving you the specific reference number for your coin in the Overton book, which is used by all serious capped bust half collectors. Very nice of you SWHuck. Chris
