1857 Bust Half

    You would think that a good "counterfeiter" would know the years of the bust halves.

    I'm confused. The auction says 1837 and it is a capped bust half with 1837 as the date.

    It may still be a fake but could also be a real one, badly cleaned and damaged.

    Yeah, the coin in the picture says 1837, but it does look like 1857 from a distance

    Fooled me for a second, I thought it looked like a 57. It's just badly scratched.

    I think you are correct, it looks like a 5 but it probably is a messed up three. Also, the seller changed the picture. The original pic showed the coin, like it was copper and silver plated. On all the worn area's the copper was showing through.

    The auction title states 1837, the description states 1837, and the coin pictured is clearly a 1837 half dollar. This coin is not fake. It just has a poor scan and it is clearly damaged by scratches.
