I just came from the store and was checking my change and found this 1986 quarter. Can someone tell me what happened here? It looks like the I was fused with the N. To me it doesn't seem like PMD. Grease filled die maybe? Thanks. (It caught my eye because it looked like w god we trust when I pulled it out of my pocket. lol)

Not struck through grease but sheared off by a coin roller.

I might agree with you if there was further evidence of this but I'm not seeing any.

What do you think it might be?

The bottom of the "I" has been pushed onto the "N".

It could be any number of things all of which would not add any value to the coin.

Pos it on the CONECA Mint Error Forums ( http://board.conecaonline.org/forumdisplay.php?f=4 ) for some other opinions.

I was looking at it again. I think ikandiggit is correct. The angle of the I is the same as the edge of the coin. Oh well, I can still spend it. lol

post mint damage, the I was hit by the finger of a coin roller. You'll get used to seeing them.

One day I'll get around to doing a thread of these. I have dozens and I'm sure every cent collector has as many or more (that is if they kept them).
