My son found a1967 gold dime. I would like to know if there is such a coin, or is it fake?
    I appreciate any information.

    Thanks

    Hello,
I would guess it is gold plated but if you could post a picture it would help.

It can't be real, where would the planchet come from ?

I have to agree here. The mint accounts for all gold down to the fraction of an ounce. For a planchet to get into a clad minting process would be next to impossible.

Electroplating gold is not a hard process to do. I have seen this done before by people who work in plants that electoplate circuits.

It makes for a nice "novelty" coin. Keep it and enjoy it.

Unfortunately, there are any number of companies which prey on the naive by gold plating common coins, and then advertising their garbage in mainstream magazines at ridiculously inflated prices as "Collector's Items". [IMG]

At least your son found it and wasn't suckered into paying $5 or more for it.[IMG]

No reason for any gold anyway in that era.

    Not real

I agree with everyone here. It's probably from one of those things that you see on the Home Shopping Network.

I plated a copper penny in chem class a few years ago with brass, looked like gold, was kinda fun also. I'm guessing that this one's probably not even gold plated, just brass.
