Hello all, I'm new to the forum and wanted to get your opinion on this Ike that I have. I've held on to it for a while now, and always liked it because of what I've always assumed was a die error.
Can you guys verify that for me, and give me a guestimate on what it could be worth? Thanks!

Your Ike is a struck through (something) error.
It may carry a premium because of this.

    Wow, that was fast.
What should I do with the coin. I keep it in a capsule already, but is there any way to get it appraised? I know since it is circulated that having it graded really wouldn't matter, or would it?

Yeah, I'd thougt of doing that, but I wasn't sure if it was worth sending in to get authenticated.

It's not a "die" error but a "production error" caused by a foreign object being struck into the coin when it was minted. As such, it has minimal value.

Having it authenticated through a TPG will cost you whatever the going rate for an error submission might be. With PCGS, its currently $50 plus $8 handling fee plus a minimum $16.95 return shipping fee. Far more than the coin is worth IMO.

If you were to take it to a coin dealer, I'm guessing you'd get offered $1.00, maybe $1.25 since the market for these minor errors can be very, very thin.

Whats the reverse look like? The 1971 Eisenhower can get a bit pricey in grades of MS65 and higher.

I know it is a circulated coin, so I'm not gonna be in the MS scale. I'll see if i can't get it out of the capsule and snap a pic of the reverse.

Thanks. I was hoping that you had an RDV-006 but its an RDV-001.

It's a nice looking coin as well.
