I just bought some neat, older Asian coins, but I don't know much about them so I'm hoping I can get some ID help. The first three all have a denomination in English characters. They are: 5 fun 1/2 chon 1/4 yang I think some or all may be Korean.
In this group, I know two are Japanese. I don't know about the last one. The two Japanese are the same denomination but I think different years.
The coin is dated "504 year" which would be 1895. The coin is dated "guangmu 2 year" which would be 1898. This Manchukuo coin is dated "datong 2 year" which would be 1933. Gary
No. 5 is a Japanese 10 sen coin dated 1925 (taisho 14). No. 6 is a Japanese 10 sen coin dated 1923 (taisho 12). Gary
You know what's interesting? It looks like the 1/4 yang is a comtempory counterfeit - but here's the good news: just because it's a counterfeit doesn't mean that it's worthless. In fact, I am personally looking for one myself.
It does look like a contemporary counterfeit. The Yongsan mint would not have produced such a poorly-made coin with die breaks. Gary
Thanks for all the info. That's interesting about the possible counterfeit. I don't have time right now but I'll check it out later and see if I can see what you see. I've never (knowingly) seen a counterfeit in person before.
