I decided to rummage through a few stacks of the 1700+ wheats that I got in a box of CWRs from the bank a few weeks ago, looking for any varieties, and lo and behold, I have just run across my first doubled die coin(FS-01-1941-103)! Pics may not be clear enough to see very well, but it popped out at me as soon as I saw it, as it looks better in hand: Thanks
I always wonder how a doubled die can be as circulated as that coin is. You'd think that sometime in the past 71 years someone would have spotted it and put it away.
I see what you are looking at though I dont think it is. Heck there are some 1941 on www.coppercoins.com that are listed as DDOs that I may not agree with. Could be wrong, will see what others say.
I would think so to, but at the same time, not many people take time to slow down and take a peek at their currency, I suppose
Apparently, on this particular variety, there's no doubling listed for the motto(and I didn't see any). I can still snap a few pics if you're interested.
Sure looks like this one to me.http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1941&die_id=1941p1do006&die_state=lds Nice find!
I checked out my guide and confirmed on CONECA's site and it looks to be on par with the error listed in both resources.
would this coin be able to be given a grade if I want it slabbed(probably ngc)? The reverse doesn't as bad as the front. I want to have it graded for personal keepsake reasons, and I don't know if there would be anything that they might see that would keep them from giving it a grade.
yes, it appears to be that variety. Also notice the doubled earlobe, another diagnostic for it. Looks VF, some corrosion, but without seeing a reverse photo, difficult to tell if it would slab. Probably the cost of verification/slabbing would be close to the value, so I would not do it.
Here are photo's of the motto and the reverse. I know that the cost would just about outweigh the value if i decided to sell it, but I more than likely won't ever want to sell.
