I have a coin that I need help with. My wife posted a question about the coin about a month ago and we could not get the pics to upload. The coin is a 1796 silver dollar. It is a draped bust. It has 13 stars on the front and lady liberty facing the right side of the coin. On the reverse it has a full spread eagle with a shield on its chest. It also has 13 stars the eagle has arrows in its left talon and I think an olive branch in its right. I checked one of the books on the coin and the front and the back dont quite match they seem to be from different designs. The coin also weighs very close to the right mint weight its only a tiny bit off for wear. I may be able to email pics of the coin but I cant post them because they are to big and I cant figure out how to shrink them. Any help would be appreciated thank you very much.
Post some photos-----the chances are that this coin in fake---what was the weight when you weighed it? Speedy
Duh----I see you said you can't post them..........I'll post it for you. Since you said that the coin doesn't match up that is almost for sure then that it is fake--that is how most people find that a coin is fake....the guy faking it would leave out or add in some detail. Speedy
I can email you pics I think but for some reason I cant get them to post here. I cant remember right off hand exactly what the weight was. If it was supposed to weigh 28grams this coin weighted like 26.9grams that is only an exaple mind you but it was very close to production weight. Me and a freind found the coin in kentucy and are trying to research it I found a few pics on ebay the bust matches but they have 15 stars not 13 and the eagle on the back of them doesnt match mine at all
Sure---try to Email photos with the one above Since the weight was off....and the design was too---I can say pretty sure that its a fake----these just don't pop up with new designs. If you email them I'll post them here so everyone can see. Speedy
the rims are wrong and the details just aren't right. Unfortunately this isn't real, by the way if this coin is off by a whole gram that is conclusive evidence that it is fake. The weight variance was very strict and a deviance of more than 1% is unacceptable.
