    Greetings,

I bought a PCGS 1909 VDB ms64rd and looking at the auction from the picture its showing there doesn't seem to be little black specks on the face and down the right side of the coin that was sent to me.The auction does say that the picture may not be the same coin. But, I would at least expect to receive a coin that looks like the one in the auction or am i wrong about that.,

That says it all to me.

Never trust anyone that uses stock photos for anything other than ASEs or proof sets.

you should have left off the last 6 words! You should have said, "Never trust anyone that uses stock photos for anything." I can think of NO coin that I'd like to own where the appearance of the surface is so unimportant to me that a picture of the actual item being sold is unnecessary. If they are using stock photos they are in violation of ebay's coin seller's code of conduct, so their trustworthiness is open to questioning. Additionally, you must ask yourself why would the use a stock photo? I can only think of 2 reasons: 1) they are too lazy/cheap to purchase and learn to proberly use the equipment necessary to take good photos, or, 2)They are trying to conceal something about the actual coin for sale. I don't want to deal with that seller either way!

This is why the similarities with coin dealers and used car salesman are so apparent. Ever see on TV that great buy in a car and when you go to the car dealer they say that one was just sold, HOWEVER, we have one similar to that right here and it's a creature from the black lagoon. Consider it a lesson well learned.

    Hello,

I received a message from seller that he is willing to take back the coin.He wants to take off 20% for having to relist it.He also will take off s/h.. I am ok with that its the extra 20%.. If this is SOP with sellers, So be it.I just feel I got the old bait and switch and now screwed more by returning it.If you want Ebay number just let me know,

I'd like the ebay number to know not to deal with this guy. It isn't SOP to charge a restocking fee, and I sure hope this guy listed that in his auction before he decided to charge you.

he will probably (if he hasn't already) claim that the fee is to cover his eBay/Paypal expenses (listing and final value fees and PP transaction fees) but the truth is that he will get his eBay final value fees refunded when he informs eBay that you and he have mutually agreed to not complete the transaction. Also he will get his PP fees refunded when he refunds your payment and he also will have his listing fees refunded if he relists the item, so there is no actual cost to him other than his time. The 20% is a punitive measure to punish you for wasting his time and nothing else! And don't allow him to claim it is anything else!

I hope it's not a member here as well, because they would look bad. A 20% restocking fee is ridiculous.

Okay, I looked at the auction.

I hope you haven't returned the item yet! You need to file a complaint with paypal for 2 reasons, assuming that is how you paid.

    1. Nowhere on that page does he mention it is a stock photo, that is a violation of ebay's rules, he did mention in his sellers instructions, however I think he needs to list it in the description.
    2. He is asking for a restocking fee that is not listed in that auction.

He is a crook, and as such needs to be treated as such.

Also, was the coin at the very least in a PCGS slab graded ms-64 red?

    Zaneman,

He stuck that disclaimer in sellers payment instructions. I didn't see it at first or I would have contacted him about it. I want to thank you for your comment though. It made me feel better that something isn't right and its not me...

no, its not you, it's him. I would contact him and try to work it out with him first, but if he gets nasty then talk to Paypal. He also says that he ships within 10 days of receiving payment and IIRC paypal requires shipment within 3 business days of the funds arriving in your account, so that is a third violation.

Thanks for the notice, I will avoid that guy.

DId he mention the 20% restocking fee anywhere? It is very dishonest to put the fact that he uses stock photos in his payment instructions. Personally, I feel that has nothing to do with payment, that has to do with the auction description. This guy is being dishonest, and I feel that you should demand a refund in full, and if not, I would go to paypal.

The seller stated "Photo's may not be the same registration number as the coin you are bidding on." This statement is in the Payment Info area and really should have been in the description area. Nowhere does he list the restocking fee. I'd complain about that, for sure. Regarding the stock photos, some dealers use them and some don't. They're probably ok for sellers who sell vitamins or pet toys or italian charms but coin dealers should use unique photos and descriptions, imo (I do). Return the coin and move on. There's too many real coin dealers out there.

tdec1000 Coin Rich, Money Poor :D

IS 46 dollars going price for a 64 RD? I have a 66RB in a pcgs slab that I paid 50 dollars for. If you look a little harder you could find a better coin for 50 bucks.
