The pirate probably left the coin in his pirate pants when he washed them and the coin got stuck in a fin inside his clothes dryer.
the sound quality is terrible but speaking of "dainty pirates".... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_y8hL0eRDU
I cant read the writing on it due t the thickness of the edge ....and he looks like a pirate to me ..... and the flags and cannon on the back makes it one of the coolest looking coins i have seen....but why is the edge so deep on mine Ive looked at others and they are normal looking
thank you for the photo mine is a 10 cent and it is silver ....or a silver color ...but I dont know why it has such a deep edge...do you ? thx
cman answered your question here in post #2. Someone was trying to make a ring out of it. The wide rim was created during that process. It was just never completed.
In other words, the large rim is Post Mint Damage. Someone took it and beat it with a spoon or other object repeatedly to make it into a ring. See the link http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Ring-from-a-Silver-Coin
thank you I didnt know what spooned meant and i didnt know ring meant one that you wear on your finger
