Dang, at least we know it's a 1993 or later. It's still a GREAT coin!

Or it could always be the elusive 1992 CAM! But that's just wishful thinking...

The struck thru wire thing you mentioned is probably a metal shaving that was created on the second strike of your coin. sometimes the coin dies shaves off some thin pieces of metal from a coin on the second strike because the coin is not in the collar and tries to slide out from under the die. I have quite a few double struck coins with what looks like wire fragments on them . I removed the loose metal fragments from some of my coins because they were so sharp and sticking straight up.

What's opposite of the second strike?

Rascal is correct. The "wire" appears simply to be a little bit of metal shaved off the "slide zone" during the second strike by the edge of the die. It's nothing too unusual.

I've wondered about the same thing. I'm going to guess they find them from bags bought straight from the mint, but I'm probably wrong. lol

Hard to tell from your photos but in my opinion the wire is not a retained strike through but appears to be laying on top of the planchet from being sheared off the original planchet from the double strike (a lot going on at the double strike area). I have had several examples of this in the past but my attached photos show the closest example of this type that I currently have in my inventory. If it was a retained strike through, the metal would be no higher than the field that it was struck into. Your photo clearly shows that the wire is laying above the field indicating that the wire was sheared. Still a nice error coin.
