I am going to my buddies house to pick this up for 6 dollars over melt value, so I don't think that's too bad. But... we could not find anything anywhere on this medal. The official inaugural medal for Bush was done in Wisconsin at a place called MedalCraft.com, and this is NOT the official medal. My buddy had it tested and says it is pure silver. Does anyone have any ideas where this was made and if it has a collectors worth? Personally, I think the artwork is pretty gnarly and if I wasn't getting it for dang near melt i wouldn't bother. No box or COA... numbered #0019 Edit: My post title says coin... I meant medal. Don't know if you guys even mess with any medals in here... but I'm guessing you do.
I have issues with this being silver as opposed to what I believe it to be in silver plate, and could have been made by almost anyone. Since there is no COA which would have a description, possibly, of the composition of metal used to make this piece, that leads me to believe that this is just more of a conversation piece for Bush lovers than anything else. The genuine 1st Inaugural medal was made of bronze in 2.75" diameter, and smaller ones of 1.5", with limited editions in .999 fine silver and 14k gold both 2.75". The 2nd Inaugural medal was sold in limited edition sets containing 1 solid silver, 1 solid 14k gold, and 1 limited edition of solid silver, 1 bronze, and 1.5" diameter coins, and a 1.25" sold 14k gold.
Yes, I know about the real medals... I linked the company that makes them in Wisconsin. But... this coin has a nick out the side where the guy supposedly had it tested. How far down does a tester usually go to test for pure silver? I need to figure out if it's not pure silver so I can return it if that is the case. I can tell you it's not magnetic which rules out some metals.... Thanks for your response.
Anyone else betting it's a likely fake? Seeing that it apparently has no numismatic/collector value...I'm deliberating cutting into it to see what it's comprised of.... I also forgot to state that on the edge it say .999 silver... but that could be referring to the plating?
Okay, somebody I know has a bunch of these. It is .999 silver (Probs 5 oz) and it is real. I have almost no doubts of the authenticity of yours, though not a US Mint product.
