Ah, memories. I went from that, a box, to bags. Many bags. Bags for wheats, copper cents, and pre-1960 nickels. Silver gets put in rolls and taken to my SDB when a couple rolls are full or if I have slabbed stuff to deposit. The nicest coins get put into 2x2's and reside in three ring binders. I have a dansco for my nickels.
I have all of mine in an antique writing desk. I keep some of the nice stuff in the glass cabinet above the desk part, the rest in albums and a few cigar boxes. I have since reorganized this as I have added more to my ASE I had to take all the proof sets and rolls and move them to the drawers below the desk.
in response to the filipino question... I am not filipino but a lot of my friends are and thats where i got the coins and bill. but there is a lot of interesting replies to my question a lot of different ways to store coins. i think for now since none of my coins are very valuable and none of them have been slabbed or graded, i am looking for some sort of cubby solution so i can separate them by country and year! but i am still open for more suggestions.
I guess it will depend on what you want to do with your coin. I don't have anything graded really but I wanted something central where I could put all my coin in and also be able to see some of it without having to drag boxes, albums, ect out all the time. Plus I wanted it to be something I could work at as well. Maybe you can find something at an antique store or unfinished furniture store that might meet your needs. Good luck!
I never recommend "displaying" coins. It's an invitation for theft! I use a lot of the stuff Lance posted, i.e. 2x2's, binder pages, airtites, tubes and lots of ziplocks. Here's an example of my binder page, I like the Cowans brand of binder pages:
As long as they're not touching the coins they're okay. (I really don't know if the have PVC.) Lance.
Theft is my biggest worry.. I keep mine in air tights and insert each one in a card holder slot.then put them in a note book... pitiful I can find no way to store them in a booklet, or boxes..say padded boxes so I can look at them more..I may just sell them all because I don't think anyone will want them after I croak and they will probably be given away.. some are too expensive to own..
