I'll buy one of each just to keep the set going. The current prices make me want to just stop.

And this is where the collector should step in, not the investor. I bought that set Dan. I didn't buy it because I thought I'd make money on it. Heck, I lost money on that one, but it's a set that I'm proud to own. I bought it because I liked the set and what it represented. This is what every person should do when considering a coin/set purchase.

I also like my Franklin set- still it is nice to know ahead of time what you are getting in to.

Was going to order the set but the whole 'product available for shipping 5/31/12' has put me off the set, just going with the regular proof now.

Give it a day or two Spock. I've had the same thing happen to me. After a day it may be changed (status) to 'hold' and then 'in stock and reserved'.

I agree with Topcat and treehugger. Even as an ex-Army man, it doesn't do much for me. I gave my support to the MS 50 cent commemorative a while back.

I'm not at all opposed to buying any Modern Commem. But when the design is lackluster and doesn't incorporate all that the Mint could have integrated into the coin. Then I stay away. The Mint has a habit of stopping several feet short of a truly magnificent masterpieces. They have so many different products they're working on that they can't take their time to make this coin a huge winner. I will gladly take quality/design over volumes of different releases any day.

And what you guys are sayin' has been used in the past to describe classic coins not well received by the public.

Here's what someone wrote about the Morgan Dollar

" However, the April 17, 1878, edition of the Carson City Morning Appeal denounced the design of the coin, referring to the eagle’s likeness as a “wide, flat pelican-bat of the wilderness.” The writer further suggested that the coin should be offered at a discount below face value to help make it more attractive."

We still thinkin' the Morgan looks like a Pelican-Bat today? The point is, future generations may have a different opinion regarding this modern commem. What's ho-hum and lackluster now may one day generate some extraordinary interest.

The collector in me will still get one in proof and uncirculated.......:)

I know, i know, point well taken. Just a personal preference of mine, and I blame my collecting interests for not being more interested in modern commems as a whole. But you have to enjoy these back and forth arguements, makes for great conversation green.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

I just received my Infantry Dollars.
Out of five proofs, two have to go back.
They have huge gouges in the fields,
making them ugly. What happened to QC?
