Is this the norm? String and Son don't yield much silver? Because I think the boxes I'm about to start getting from my bank that has agreed to order halves are going to be String and Son.

Are you doing this just to look for silver? I hope not, with the price of gas these days.

I've had some pretty great finds on road trips. :) I'm not exactly new to the game, Mr. Steve. I typically use about $40 in gas, plus lunch, so $50, give or take a few. With the price of silver these days, one good hit covers that with ease.

Wed. is my normal dump and scroung around looking for coins day.

Had a bit of good luck that I have been needing! $6 face value halves from a teller. They were all 40%ers!!!

Teller wanted to double check if I wanted them as they were pretty dirty and held one up. I didn't see the date but could tell right away b/c it had the "cigarette stain" toning to it!

Felt great taking them in my hand and realizing they were all silver!

Those however appear to have been the only halves in town so I spent my dump money on quarters and dimes. should keep me busy until I get my next two boxes this Friday. Not expecting much though. I think like 4 or 6 coins is the most I have ever pulled out of one box and have had more skunks than anything.

I really need to take a trip south to get into a differnt deliver centers territory and see what happens. Or maybe east. I'm not driving all the way to Detroit but if I could get far enough over to get into their delivery area and order some coins from there that might do better. Am I right in assuming big city and lot's of poverty are two positive factors in finding silver?

And plus, even without a big find, it's the same as paying $50 for a full day of food and entertainment... how can you beat that! :)

I just had the craziest roll find someone could have! I bought 30 rolls of pennies this afternoon and aside from most of them being over 1-3 cents, the 2nd to last roll I emptied out contained nothing but dimes! 56 of them to be exact. I've never seen anything like it before. This is a $5.10 profit on a 50 cent investment. I'm thinking about going back to this bank to try and buy more rolls of pennies, the teller made the comment that he had $35 worth of pennies but I only bought $15 from him. Anyone had something similar happen before or want to take a gander at why or how this could happen?

I find "A" dime in a penny roll on a pretty regular basis. I think those cheap coin sorters people buy make mistakes sometimes, but a whole roll of them!? That's pretty cool!

Yes indeed, 6 coins over from a full roll to be exact. This makes up for the roll I got from a bank yesterday that only had 45 pennies in it, lol! I went back and bought the remaining 40 rolls from this particular teller. I'm going through them right now, no more dimes yet but one of the rolls I just went through dates to 1987 and before. There are several rolls with the same type of wrapper that these pre-1988 coins were found in so I'm hoping there are more of these older rolls in the lot.

One box today and found 1 1965. Does it matter what company ships the boxes?

Went through $100 of BWR, got 10 40% halves out of them. And, once again, a single roll had 7 in it! So after going through about $373 of halves in just 4 days of searching, my total is 43 40% halves and 2 90% quarters.

It's strange, though: I've yet to find a 1970 half, and every single '68 or '69 is from Denver.

All of the boxes I've been getting come from Brinks in clear plastic rolls. I average 10 wheats per box with them. I've read about people having better finds from Loomis boxes.

I ended up buying the remaining 40 rolls from the teller who had the dimes in the penny wrapper. No other dimes were found and I only got 2 or 3 wheats out of these 40 rolls. Some of the rolls were interesting, though. One dates to 2003 or earlier, one dates to 1987 or earlier and one dates to 2004 or earlier. All three of these rolls have the same type of wrapper. I'll be hanging onto these rolls for a while, they are kind of neat as it is like stepping back in time and going to a bank almost 10 or 25 years ago.

That's normal, strange would be finding a 1970 half, since it was NIFC (Not Intended For Circulation) or a '68 or '69 from Philadelphia (because they didn't make them) lol

This is what the mintages look like for the 1970 :

    1968-D - 246,951,930
    1969-D - 129,881,800
    1970-D - 2,150,000

My wife returned yesterdays SKUNK box of dimes and picked up another box of dimes on the way home.
Got a 58 Rosie. So far from 10 boxes of dimes we have had at least one with 3 being skunks but we have avoided 2 in row so far.

    Best of luck to everyone!

Has anyone found a good calculator to put in the # of coins and multiply the silver content of various types of silver coins?
