Having left my wife with a couple of bunches of tulips I left for the evening to attend my first Numismatic Society meeting. At 46, I was the young pup which made me feel good and once the various formalities were concluded we listened to a presentation on transporter bridges and their tokens. In keeping with Club rules I brought a coin along as a discussion piece (Godless Canadian Quarter 1911 MS63) and a Columbia Farthing, which is a numismatic anomaly and really a token. It was explained to me that attendance numbers were down as some had recently died or were ill, so I said, so joining won't affect my health will it? An elderly chap with a straight face assured me it wouldn't. I tried to resist attempts at humour from then on. Being influenced by folks across the pond, any comments I made about Sheldon Scale and slabbed coins also went down poorly, especially with the 13th century coin specialist I spoke to. Just in case my wife was miffed about my prioities on Valentines day I bought her a Kebab on the way home, which was well received and she seemed quite relieved I went out for the evening.
We went to bingo in the afternoon, and dinner at Olive Garden in the evening. She received a love puppy, and a heart shaped box of Russell Stovers, along with a card. If I had a any meeting yesterday evening, I would have been absent.
